About Sterling

Sterling is located in Logan county and is the largest city in the northeastern part of the state. Sterling is 128 miles’ northeast of Denver. It is the largest city in Northeastern Colorado and home to Northeastern Junior College, a residential two-year liberal arts college. Sterling is also the location of the award-winning RE-1 Valley School District, whose academics, music programs, and athletics programs are consistently among the most highly rated in the state of Colorado. 

Sterling is a farm-ranch community and has deep roots in the Colorado prairie. The Downtown Sterling Historic district touches on those roots featuring 54 buildings that pay tribute to the spirit and culture of the community. There are many outdoor activities to do in this small town including golfing on one of the two golf courses and hiking the trails of the Chimney Canyon. Following a day of exploring you can unwind and enjoy the beautiful stars that go for miles as you gaze into the untouched night sky.

Sterling is a laid back community that offers residents and visitors a quiter way of living. Stroll through Downtown Serling to see the old town beauty this area still has. New shops and dining establishments now inhabit the historic buildings and make shopping and dining afun experience. Sterling has a unique art culture which can be seen throughout downtown with the Sterling Creatives Artist Co-op and the Sacred Mtters Glassblowing Studio. 

Throughout the year you can always depend on Sterling to have a fun event or festival including car shows, free concert series and the Heritage Festival, Local COuntry Fair & Rodeo and Sugar Beet Days. 

  • North Sterling State Park offers 1,500 acres of land for camping, hiking trails and enjoying wildlife while boasting 3,000 acres on untouched water for fishing and boating.  

  • Riverview Golf Course is a public golf course that has a relaxed atmosphere and provides a championship course without the cost. 

  • Sky Ranch Golf Course is Sterling’s premier golf course often referred to as ‘An oasis on the plains’, offering a par-72 course with beautiful scenery, a restaurant, a clubhouse and bar for all to enjoy. 

  •  Northeastern Junior College is a 2- year liberal arts college offering over 80 programs of study.
