Penrose is located in Central Colorado and part of Fremont County. A quaint town, Penrose has no traffic lights, a volunteer-run fire station, a trucking company, a gas station, a Veterans of Foreign Wars hall, a doctor's office, a post office, a library, a small grocery store, the Estes Industries model rocket factory, one small restaurant, and several other businesses. Many residents commute to work in Colorado Springs or Canon City.
Bordered by the Arkansas River, Penrose offers easy access to mountains and the river for hiking, fishing, and more. Penrose is also known for its Apple Day, held each October with the area’s apple crop. Local farms let visitors pick fresh produce and sell jams, jellies, and marinades.
Penrose is home to Dakota Hot Springs, a spring located near the scenic Arkansas River Valley. But beware, this hot spring resort is clothing optional! Close by in Canon Cit is the Royal Gorge Route Railroad, a top Colorado attraction.
Although small, Penrose is in a prime location, neighboring towns offer great dining options for those in Penrose. Colorado Springs, Pueblo and Canon City all feature a mix of national chain favorites and local restaurants.
