Stapleton
Stapleton is a newly developed retail and residential community that was previously the site of the main airport in Denver between 1929 and 1995. After Denver International Airport was built in 1995, the old Stapleton Airport was decommissioned and demolished, evolving into one of the best neighborhoods in the area.

Stapleton's Sustainable Community
Although newly constructed, it didn't take long for Stapleton to look and feel like the other pleasant, suburban neighborhoods so familiar in Denver. Famous worldwide as an example of what a sustainable community or "green plan" should look like, Stapleton is a successful planned community.
The former airport site consisting of terminals and runways has been transformed into more than 4,000 homes and hundreds of restaurants and shops over the last decade. Favorites like Starbucks, Target, and the new My Kid's Closet are thriving while new retailers are constantly popping up. The Shops at Northfield Stapleton are popular for a pedestrian-friendly outdoor shopping experience different from most downtown malls or stores.
Living in Stapleton
Nearly a third of Stapleton's 4,700 acres have been set aside to be developed as public parks. Open space, recreation centers, and Central Park, the third biggest park in Denver, highlight an abundance of options for outdoor recreation seekers and provide an ideal destination for hikers.
Stapleton was pre-planned by designers and Denver civic leaders to be pedestrian friendly, rather than automobile-oriented like most other planned communities. It consists of interlocking trails that link residential neighborhoods to parks, shopping centers, and the 17,000-acre Rocky Mountain Arsenal National Wildlife Refuge that is a favorite spot to view local wildlife roaming the nearby plains.
Real estate options are almost unlimited in Stapleton. Because the area continues to grow rapidly, you can find available and brand new apartments, plenty of single-family housing, and both new and traditional elaborate houses in great localities. Stapleton's neighborhoods each have different appearances. Homes come in wide styles that vary by location. You can easily find homes that are closing to shopping districts or open space.
By far the biggest neighborhood in Denver, Stapleton is making plans to triple the amount of its current number of houses that will be served by six schools in the Stapleton Public School District, a light rail station, open space for parks, office space, and more retail as well.
