Florence is located along the Arkansas River on the eastern range of the Rocky Mountains in Fremont County. The Colorado town grew rapidly in the late 1800s after oils was discovered there., and the The Florence community is the start of the Gold Belt Tour Scenic Byway. The Gold Belt Tour is a drive that takes you on old stagecoach and railroad routes passing historic mining towns including Cripple Creek, one of the greatest gold camps. Visitors and Residents residents of Florence can enjoy an abundance of adventures including horseback riding, rafting, fishing and rock climbing along the Arkansas river. They can also four-wheel drive on independence trail and shelf road. If they are looking for more relaxed approach they can enjoy a 20-block downtown featuring art centers, shopping, restaurants and bars.
