About Agate, CO
Located in northeastern Elbert County, Agate is one of Colorado's ranching communities. It is home to Agate School District, one of the smallest school districts in Colorado. And, interestingly, the town's name comes from an "A-gate"- a wooden gate with an "A" shaped cross-brace.
In the recent years, several small residential subdivisions have been planned, and new construction in the area is growing. However, most of the community - local farmers and ranchers - reside on the outskirts of town.
