About Agate, CO
Located in northeastern Elbert County, Agate is one of Colorado's ranching communities. It is home to Agate School District, one of the smallest school districts in Colorado. And, interestingly, the town's name comes from an "A-gate"- a wooden gate with an "A" shaped cross-brace.
In the recent years, several small residential subdivisions have been planned, and new construction in the area is growing. However, most of the community - local farmers and ranchers - reside on the outskirts of town.
Agate Entertainment & Culture
- The Bijou Alpaca Ranch is a small Suri alpaca breeding facility that also houses horses, goats and chickens.
- Prairie Wind Animal Refuge provides a safe and permanent home to wild and exotic animals needing shelter.
- Colorado Off Road Extreme is an 800-acre off road park for SUVs, trucks, ATVs and more.
