Uptown is a core city neighborhood located in east Denver, north of the Capitol Hill neighborhood. Comparable to adjacent neighborhoods Capitol Hill and Five Points, Uptown has a diverse population that helps earn its title as ‘one of Denver’s hippest ‘hoods,’ given by Sunset Magazine. Locals say spots in Uptown, such as City Park, offer striking views of the Rocky Mountains and downtown that cannot be matched anywhere else in the city.
Even though Uptown is the city’s oldest residential neighborhood, it is known for its lively restaurants, trendy shops and forward-thinking attitude. Restaurant Row, which stretches from Broadway along 17th Avenue to City Park, puts a busy nightlife within walking distance with fine dining, outdoor cafes, stylish boutiques and some of the best bars around town. Theaters in the area also provide all the entertainment needed for arts enthusiasts.
Uptown offers a wide variety of housing choices. Streets lined with tall green trees contain Uptown’s classic Victorian homes that mix well with the bungalows, high-rise lofts and modern condos in the neighborhood.
Uptown is popping with things to do year-round and is one of the most active neighborhoods in Denver. In the summer, the City Park Jazz Festival and the Black Arts Festival bring the park to life. In the winter, families flock to the neighborhood for Zoo Lights put on by the Denver Zoo.
